The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Lady Brett Ashley

In "The Sun also Rises", Lady Brett Ashley is a very beautiful woman that lost someone she loved in World War I.I believe that Lady Brett Ashley's meaning of life is to just have fun. She has fun by drinking a lot and having sex.  Right after he died in WWI, Lady Brett married another man. She must have got what she wanted from him because she moved on and is in the process of divorcing him. I know that she does not marry men for love, but only for the sex. By the end of book one, Brett is with two men; Jake and Mike. I believe that she truly loves Jake, but she will not commit to him because he is unable to have sex due to what happened to him in WWI. This is why she is going to marry Mike, a man that she probably doesn't love but is using him for sex. By marrying Mike, she is saying that she will only marry a man that will have sex with her. This is her way of having fun in life. She must be satisfied with her life because she is not making any extra effort to find her true meaning of life so if she is satisfied with that, she has found her meaning of life. She should continue doing this if it brings happiness to her life.

What is the Meaning of Life?

I believe the meaning of life is to do whatever you want that makes you happy and just enjoy life the best you can. You don't always need money for happiness. To me, happiness is when you are with your friends and family spending quality time together. Being around the people you care about and love is the meaning of life. For some people, the meaning of life could be that they want to be rich and just buy their way through life without ever actually doing thingsthemselves. Some peoples meaning of life could only be to party every day and get drunk every night. Their meaning of life could be to just have fun without ever having real responsibilities as an adult. This is the meaning of life that the characters in “The Sun also Rises” acquire and they have found their meaning of life.
